Nothing special, just a pair of lightly used and refurbished XV750 pistons and a new set of rings; all bored into a clean pair of 700 barrels. Unfortunately, Yamaha no longer supplies most of the parts for this engine. No Longer Available: pistons, rings, head gaskets, base gaskets, pins, or clips. Same for the late model 750. And the after-market has not pursued either of these motors. We will provide used pins and clips; you'll have to decide between them and what you have already. This will be as complete a kit as is possible: pistons, new rings, pins, clips, cylinder dowels, bored-to-size cylinders, and an Athena complete gasket set. Expect this kit to run around $425 exchange.

I won't bore the cylinders until someone shows some interest -- but that's about a two-day turn-around. No gaskets, but that's around a week. So, if you want this kit, contact me. It will consist of the stuff I listed above. I will gap the rings and chase all the threaded holes. Remember that this is in exchange for your barrels which have all unbroken fins and ungouged gasket surfaces. If your barrels don't fit this description, just ship them in and I'll perform all the operations on them and return them in about a week.

This kit brings you up from 699cc to 748cc and bumps the compression ratio from 9:1 to 10.2:1; enough to feel. Also, keep in mind that as there are no OEM parts available if your seven hundred has worn out its bore this is the only option that you have -- other than retiring the bike.

I just looked up the stock late model 750 for last (1.0mm) over pistons and rings. Everything appears to still be available except for the pins. This would result in 767cc at 10.5:1. You would get new genuine Yamaha pistons, rings, clips, an Athena gasket set, and four new dowels, plus the bore job into new-looking cylinders. This version would run $825 exchange plus shipping.

Why spend a third of the price on a gasket set? Stock head and base gaskets total almost two hundred dollars; cam chain tensioner plunger gaskets add another seventy five. Athenea gasket sets are the best available, better than OEM Yamaha. There is no set for the seven hundred and no top-end set for the late model seven fifty, just a complete set. It works on the smaller bike, but it includes a few gaskets (mostly having to do with the starter system) that don't get used. The expensive gaskets are common for both models.
